Everest Eating

by Cecilia Aiello

Introductions

When asked by a reporter why he wanted to climb Mt. Everest, English mountaineer George Mallory retorted, "Because it's there". This simple, three-word response accounts for many of our worst snacking snafus. Our hunter-gatherer roots have hardwired our brains to seek out (and consume) available calories: a handful of chips here, a cookie or two there... this cycle of survival-instinct snacking becomes problematic when there are an abundance of calories available.
