There are those of us that are naturally drawn to water, whether it's the ocean, lakes, streams, or the local pool. If you are a natural water baby you’ve likely already explored this avenue in your fitness life. But if you haven't had the opportunity, here are some compelling reasons to make swimming a part of your next workout!
Low-impact exercise. A word of warning before we ‘dive in’ here. Any pattern of overuse can take a toll on the body. But, one of the most common and appreciated benefits of swimming is its low impact on the soft tissues of the body. If your ankles, knees, hip sockets or other joints and extremities have taken too much pounding, then try putting your jump rope down, unlacing your running shoes, and get in the water instead.Confidence. If you’ve shied away from the water in the past, then taking on swimming will open your emotional body, leaving you feeling more confident, positive, and even interested in other fun water-based activities like surfing, wake boarding, kayaking, and paddle boarding.
Increased Lung Capacity. Becoming too proficient at your cardio training option of choice will result in diminishing fitness gains. Swimming is an excellent way to increase your body’s ability to process oxygen efficiently!
It’s time to bust out your bathing suit and take a swim!
