Why do we train?
We train to feel good. We train to be healthy. Sometimes we train to rock the clothes we wear. We even train to keep up with our friends, families, and pets on a walk or a run. These are all valid goals and fantastic sources of training motivation. But… what is it like to put our physical condition to the test, comparing ourselves directly with what others can do?
Here at Kenzai we train online. Allowing for a lot of freedom and flexibility! That’s great. But sometimes it can be interesting to take part in an activity in which we have to work (and compete) with others - in person.
If you feel a dip in your motivation, consider scheduling an event to take your fitness to another level. Here are a couple options:
Races. How many kms can you actually run? How long does it take you to do it? Sign up for a local 5 k or 10 k and find out! Not only will it test your resolve, you’ll get to know the locals interested in fitness and exercise in your area. The general excitement and environment before, during, and after these races is just pure magic! If you like it, and do it often, you’ll quickly discover that the same people always shows up! Community matters!
Obstacle Races. These races are becoming more popular. And they come in a wide variety of shapes and sizes. It is possible to find a range of difficulty levels too. A quick trip online will allow you to access the obstacles description of a given race. From there you can start tailoring your training in preparation for them.
If you’ve seen the Rope Climb obstacle, you’ll know both fitness and technique are key. Another plus is that it is sometimes possible to compete in teams or in pairs, which can be incredibly fun. Preparing with a partner or team for a common challenge breeds motivation!
Kenzai programs can be an amazing way to push your limits toward optimal condition.
Scheduling a race will only help! So, are you ready? What is going to be your next training challenge?
